This March, AFK is excited to offer an Artist-in-Residence program for senior art students, providing an opportunity to work for two school days at the AFK studios with artist Emily Hermant. The AFK Artist-in-Residence programs provide vital skills training and the necessary dedicated time and focus that gives young artists the rare opportunity to immerse themselves in creativity and art making. During two school days, senior art students who are nominated by their school will work with professional artist, Emily Hermant. Students will create three dimensional sculptures in plaster using mold making techniques. Inspired by Emily Hermant’s artistic practice, students will explore patterning and the theme of pathways, specifically the pathways that communication technology uses.

Artist Bio:
Emily Hermant is an interdisciplinary artist whose sculptures, material drawings, and installations explore themes of communication, gendered labor, technology, and craft. She received her BFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University in Montréal, QC, Canada, and her MFA as a Trustee Merit Scholar in Fiber & Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Hermant is based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, where she is Associate Professor of Sculpture + Expanded Practices in the Audain Faculty of Art at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
