βINTERPERSONAL AND FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS 11 (4 credits)
This course provides a broad overview of how relationships form and change. You will explore a variety of relationships, including workplace/community/family relationships, friendships and committed relationships, as well as examine how these relationships evolve or end. This course will also provide an overview of effective communication, wellness and safety in interpersonal relationships. You will examine the variety of ways people communicate and describe components of healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Assessment includes Journal and Project Based Assessments
COMMUNITY INITIATIVES AND LEADERSHIP 11 (4 credits)
The Community Initiatives and Leadership course is designed to provide students with hands on service and leadership opportunities at Carson Graham Secondary and our community. In the senior course, students will be allowed more freedom to plan and carry out student centered learning activities that highlight service and volunteering in the community. Students will learn about a variety of leadership topics through engaging guest speakers, fun and relevant activities and meaningful service activities. Students will also participate in a leadership field trip experience, public speaking and the Duke Edinburgh award at this level.
COMMUNITY INITIATIVES AND LEADERSHIP 12 (4 Credits)
The Community Initiatives and Leadership course is designed to provide students with multiple service and leadership opportunities. The theory portion of the class is based on the Student Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner. This class is intended for grade 12 students who have participated in a prior leadership class but exceptions can be made for first time students. Leadership is honed through peer to peer interactions, service planning, service initiatives and reflection. This class will also encourage peer leadership of the younger grades. A leadership focused field trip is part of this course. Further work on the attaining the Duke of Edinburgh award is part of this courseβ.
