Highlands Elementary School Library Learning Commons

The Commons acts as a hub for learning, exploration, research, and making social connections.  It is run based on the Canadian School Libraries Foundations Frameworks guide.  The Commons prides itself on inclusivity.  It welcomes and serves all community stakeholders and promotes student agency.

Mission and Vision Statements

The Mission of the Library Learning Commons program is to provide a safe environment where all stakeholders feel supported by the Teacher-Librarian to learn and develop their skills in reading, research, inquiry, and leadership.

It is the Vision of the Library Learning Commons that in their time in, and connection to Highlands Elementary, students, staff, and parents come to know and embrace the Commons as their space for learning, experimenting, acceptance, and inspiration.

The Commons is open five days per week before, during, and after school.  This year, it hosts two, user-pay afterschool programs on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Student learning is supported by a certified Teacher-Librarian, and all divisions are provided with opportunities for collaborative learning.
