Library Information

The Commons serves all community stakeholders:  students, teaching staff, learning support workers, and parents.  The stacks house approximately 9400 fiction and non-fiction works in the physical collection which supports the BC K-7 curriculum.  Our license with BC Focused Education's BC Digital Classroom supports the digital collection.  A digital library commons site will be developed for student use in time.

The Commons is open for use 5 days per week.  Open times outside of class times are:

  • 8:30-8:45 & 3:00-3:15 Monday-Friday for book exchange, and read to self
  • 12:25-12:50 Monday – Thursday - grade-specific activity times (Monday: K-1; Tuesday: 2-3; Wednesday: 4-5; Thursday: 6-7)

The Commons supports reader engagement initiatives.  This year, K-5 students are participating in the Chocolate Lily Book Awards, grades 4-7 students the Red Cedar Book Awards, and the Battle of the Books Competition.  Each November we host a Scholastic Book Fair which provides the community the opportunity to purchase reading material for personal and classroom use while fundraising for the library to purchase new acquisitions.

All students use their district-issued accounts to borrow materials.  Students are given a two-week borrowing time with the possibility to renew.  Overdue notices are sent to students via printouts and to parent emails.  If materials are lost or damaged, please contact me in person or via email at lmacneil@sd44.ca to arrange for replacement.

Unlimited access to the Commons catalogue can be accessed through Follett Destiny, and research applications through the BC Digital Classroom.
