βββββWhat All Students Need to Know
As a member of the Montroyal community, it is important that you:
- Are respectful (eg. Speak respectfully to others, be polite, offer help to others, follow instructions, ask for help if you need it, take care of our school)
- Know and follow the Code of Conduct and the school rules
- Keep the school clean both inside the building and on the playground
- Take ownership of your behaviours
WHen dealing with challenges, every effort is made to emphasize a problem-solving approach, appropriate for age level, where respect and kindness are key.
Students are encouraged to solve problems independently, or with assistance following these steps:
Stop: Walk away, take deep breaths, calm down, get control
Think: How should I handle this? (Ignore? Say something?)
Talk: Calmly tell the person what you donβt like and what you expect
Reflect: Resume the activity, walk away, or walk towards an adult for assistance.
Our Safe and Caring School Community Depends on You
Usually behaviour is like a mirror β what you put out to the world is reflected back to you. If you treat others kindly, they will treat you kindly in return. If you speak to others the way youβd like to be spoken to, they will likely speak to you respectfully. If your actions are safe, others will likely try to be safe too. All students can model safe and caring behaviour for each other.
When behaviour concerns arise, please be a helper in the problem-solving process. Some ways you can do this include:
- Follow adult instructions on the first ask.
- Be an affective communicator. Use βIβ statements to express your feelings and needs.
- Apologize if you hurt someone else β physically or emotionally.
- Own your part of the problem. Take responsibility for your words and/or actions.
- Follow through with consequences of your misbehavior and learn from your mistakes.
- Be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
- Stay out of problems that donβt involve you.
