Queen Mary Community School is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 elementary school offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme. As an authorized IB World School, the Queen Mary School Community works together to create a respectful, safe and caring environment within which we all strive to be knowledgeable, active learners with a global perspective.
Queen Mary Community School had its first corner stone of the foundation set on November 25th, 1914 and welcomed its first students in August of 1915. It was known to members of the Squamish community as Hiyi kwemkwim-awtxw (roughly translated as "big red building/house" ). Queen Mary has a vibrant and important history as one of the North Shore's first schools.
After an extensive seismic upgrade and heritage restoration, Queen Mary Community School was reopened to students on January 6, 2014. The Official Opening was held on Friday, April 11, 2014.
The rebuilding of Queen Mary Elementary was aimed at meeting high environmental standards. Queen Mary has been awarded the LEED Canada Gold standing from the Canada Green Building Council. For more information: LEED Canada Rating Systems
