Cheakamus Centre
A centre of excellence for outdoor, environmental, and Indigenous cultural education, and a welcoming place for learning, gathering and sharing in nature.
Established in 1969, Cheakamus Centre is an overnight environmental education facility located on 165 ha of ecological reserve near Squamish, BC. The Centre is located on the traditional territories of the Chi'yakmesh people of Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation in the heart of the newly designated Átl'ka7tsem/Howe Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region.
Cheakamus Centre is owned by the North Vancouver School District and offers a wide variety of experiential environmental educational programs to children and adults from the Sea to Sky corridor, Metro Vancouver, and beyond. Renowned overnight field school and cultural programs include nature-based and outdoor activities tied to the new BC curriculum. Educational program offerings also include cultural, recreational, and other hands-on experiences intended to instill in young learners a sense of respect and appreciation for the natural world.
Cheakamus Centre also hosts visitors from around the globe for special events, weddings, retreats, conferences, camps, and workshops. Click here for the website.
