Professional Chef 1 Foundation

​​What are the responsibilities of a professional cook? 

  • ​Prepares vegetables, soups, sauces, meats, fish and poultry, cold kitchen items, deserts, baking and pastry for presentation 
  • Basic menu planning/costing 
  • Supervises safety in the kitchen, sanitation and safe food storage

  • ​Entering Grade 11 or Grade 12 
  • Strong interest in cooking 
  • Hand/eye coordination and good motor skills are assets 
  • English 10, Math 10, FoodSafe Level 1

What are the benefits? 

  • ​Post-secondary apprenticeship training without the tuition fee 
  • Up to 24 credits towards graduation 
  • Building connections with industry employers 
  • Apprenticeship Technical Training Level 1  

When and where is the program offered? 

  • ​28 weeks, full-time at VCC (Downtown Campus) 
  • September & February intake 

How do I register? 

  • ​Please see the school Work Experience Teacher for application package 
  • Participate in an interview 
  • Attend an evening information session at VCC 
  • Selections made by VCC
