At Norgate Xwemélch’stn we look to the People of the local Village and all our familes on Xwemélch’stn territory. Everything we do is strengthened by the teachings from the local community. Our School Plan includes action to honour the Coast Salish people:

Supporting Student Learning At Home & In the Community

We deeply value your partnership in providing rich educational experiences for your children.  Some ways you can foster your child's learning at home and in the community follow:

Continue to help your child thrive and be healthy.  The most important thing you can do as parents is help your child be happy, healthy and safe.  Thank you for all that you do for your children!

Find opportunities to connect with the outdoors and develop an appreciation of place.  This will help your children see themselves as stewards of the land.

Read with your child as often as you are able.  This can take many forms: reading aloud to your child, having your child read aloud to you, and reading alongside your child.  What is important is helping your child view reading as a source of enjoyment and learning.

Find ways to build Math learning into your everyday lives - grocery shopping, cooking/baking, watching sports games, and so on.

Help your child continue/deepen their learning in relation to units of study they are engaging in at school.  For example, if you know your child is learning about electoral processes at school, have discussions at home and/or do research as a family about local candidates, current issues, and so forth. 

Encourage your child to learn more about what interests or puzzles them.  Your child's current curiosities can be a source for fun and engaging learning for them.  After completing an inquiry, encourage your child to share their new learning at school.

Please reinforce your child's development and demonstration of the IB Learner Profile Attributes and the IB Approaches to Learning.  Celebrate their gifts and successes!
