After School Art

Artists for Kids offers After School Art classes for students each Fall, Winter and Spring term. Led by BC certified art specialist teachers and assisted by secondary art students, our classes provide the opportunity to build skills and foster creative growth within the visual arts. Students will have the opportunity to expand their artistic abilities in a multitude of different mediums, including painting, felting, printmaking, and sculpting. Classes vary in duration, price, and medium. All art materials are included in the price of the program. See below for info and to register!

Mixed Media and Textiles	Students will use nature as inspiration to create unique and imaginative art pieces while learning new techniques. From textured landscapes to vibrant mixed-media pieces, this class will provide opportunities to experiment, connect, and develop artistic skills in a variety of media. Clay Creations	Students will be introduced to the world of ceramics through exploration and experimentation. They will learn several hand building and surface decoration techniques and will have the opportunity to create their own unique pieces. This class will cover pinch, coil, and slab methods as well as underglaze, sgraffito, and glaze. Junior Performance Artists	This course is for young aspiring performing artists to playfully explore theatre together. We will play drama games, do improvisation activities, and create short scenes for performance. Creative Explorers: Watercolours, Printmaking, and Pottery	Let your hands do the talking! This hands-on class introduces children to the tactile joys of pottery, where they’ll shape, mould, and decorate their own creations. They’ll also explore basic printmaking and watercolour techniques, transforming simple materials into colourful, eye-catching designs. Master Makers: Watercolours, Printmaking, and Pottery	Unleash your creativity with clay, watercolours, and prints! Intermediate students will refine their pottery skills, creating intricate and functional designs. They’ll also dive into printmaking and watercolour painting techniques, experimenting with layers, textures, and design to create striking artworks. Painting with Wool: the Art of Felting	Students will be introduced to the magic of creating with wool in this dynamic class. Students explore techniques in needle and wet felting. They will learn to create both 2D and 3D shapes and designs. Brushstrokes and Beyond: Art through the Ages	Students will explore artists and art movements through fun and playful mixed media projects. Each week, we use prominent works of art to inspire our own creations, using drawing, painting, and a variety of exciting mediums. Emphasis will be placed on how drawing and painting can inform each other, across a variety of mediums (graphite, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, acrylic) and subject matter (still life, abstraction, portraiture, life drawing). Students will experiment with how line, value and colour can be utilized to create form. if student withdraws more than two business days prior to start of first class - refund full amount
if student withdraws within two business days of the start of the class or after the first class only - refund full amount minus $30.00 processing fee
if student withdraws after the second class - no refunds

Please note: Artists for Kids is unable to provide 1:1 support. If you child requires support at school, or will be attending classes with a support worker, please contact afkinfo@sd44.ca as soon as possible after registering.

A limited number of bursaries of up to 50% of program fees are available for those in need of financial support. In an effort to support as many families as possible, there is a limit of one bursary per child, per term for After School Art classes. Please contact Artists for Kids for more information on bursaries.

Watercolours	Welcome to the vibrant world of watercolours! In this class, young artists will embark on an exciting journey of creativity and self-expression through the medium of watercolours. Inspired by the beauty of nature, students will have the opportunity to paint landscapes and still life scenes. They'll develop observational skills, brush techniques, colour mixing and blending and learn how to translate what they see onto paper with the magic of watercolours. Collage Art	Students will discover the exciting world of collage art, where they can mix and match images, textures, and materials to create unique and expressive works of art. In this class, you will explore how to layer different materials like magazines, fabric, paper, and found objects to build dynamic, eye-catching collages that reflect your creativity and personal style.
