Grade 7/8 Transition Courses

​​The Foundation and Transition courses listed below begin on July 3, 2024 and conclude on July 19, 2024.  

Classes run from 8:30 to 11:45  (Monday-Friday) at Argyle Secondary (1131 Frederick Road)

Daily attendance is mandatory.

Grade 7/8 Transition

For students currently in grade 7

Summer Learning 7/8 Transitions is a non-credit course designed to provide a boost for students who have just completed Grade 7 and may be hesitant about the transition to secondary school, need advanced and increased orientation into the secondary school setting, and want to develop skills around the Core Competencies in order to support greater success in grade 8 and beyond. Skill acquisition will be embedded within the experiential nature of the course. Students will work in a variety of environments and with different tools to gain confidence and familiarity with the secondary school transition. 

Grade 7/8 English Language Learners (ELL) Transition  (FULL AND CLOSED)

For students currently in grade 7

Summer Learning Grade 7/8 English Language Learners (ELL) is designed for Beginning, Developing, and Expanding ELL students moving from grade 7 into high school.  It is a non-credit course designed to provide a boost for students who have just completed Grade 7 and may be hesitant about the transition to secondary school, need advanced and increased orientation into the secondary school setting, and want to develop skills around the Core Competencies in order to support greater success in grade 8 and beyond.  This course provides an opportunity to enhance English language skills in order to support greater success in grade 8 and beyond. The nature of the course is experiential; students will work in a variety of environments on various learning engagements to develop skills and gain confidence for high school.


Grade 7/8 International Baccalaureate (IB - MYP) Transition 

For students currently in grade 7

Summer Learning Grade 7/8 International Baccalaureate (IB - MYP) Transition is designed for students transitioning to an IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) school from grade 7 who have a desire to begin the transition to the MYP early.  It is a non-credit course designed to provide a boost for students who have just completed Grade 7 and may be hesitant about the transition to secondary school, need advanced and increased orientation into the secondary school setting, and want to develop skills around the Core Competencies in order to support greater success in grade 8 and beyond.  This course provides an opportunity to expose students to the MYP curriculum, such as the IB Learner Profile, Key Concepts, Approaches to Learning skills, and criterion based assessment, in order to support greater success in grade 8 and beyond. The nature of the course will be experiential; students will work in a variety of environments on various learning engagements to develop skills and gain confidence for an MYP high school.

Grade 7/8 French Immersion Transition

For students currently in grade 7

Summer Learning Grade 7/8 French Immersion Transition is designed for students transitioning to a secondary French Immersion Program. It is a non-credit course designed to provide a boost for students who have just completed Grade 7 and may be hesitant about the transition to secondary school, need advanced and increased orientation into the secondary school setting, and want to develop skills around the Core Competencies in order to support greater success in grade 8 and beyond. This course will have an additional emphasis on French language development through authentic performance tasks. This course is also designed to help students continue to develop their writing, reading and oral language skills and offer them an opportunity to continue practicing their French before the Fall semester. This course will support Grade 8 level French language skills expectations to help students gain confidence in Secondary school.
