Dear North Vancouver School District Community,

On behalf of the North Vancouver Board of Education and North Vancouver School District (NVSD), we warmly welcome you to the 2024/25 school year.

NVSD is focused on providing a supportive and enriching environment where every student can thrive. Staff have been preparing for this school year and we are grateful for their commitment to creating welcoming, safe and inclusive teaching and learning environments. We are also grateful to the many education and community partners with whom the school district will continue to collaborate throughout the year to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

As a community, we continue to build upon the NVSD’s reputation for excellence through academics, art and music festivals, academies, athletics, and outdoor learning at Cheakamus Centre. The professional development opportunities staff regularly engage in enhances both their skills and what we offer students.

We encourage families to get involved and support their school community. While school district-wide opportunities are communicated at the school district level, information on school-based opportunities is typically shared through your child(ren)’s school or Parents’ Advisory Council (PAC). Please watch for these communications.

Before closing, we would like to share a few additional updates:

Personal digital devices (PDD): new guidelines for the 2024/2025 school year

There have been some important updates to the NVSD code of conduct and individual school codes of conduct regarding the use of personal digital devices (PDD) in the classroom. For more information on PDD use across the NVSD, please read the letters issued June 21 and August 22, 2024, from the Superintendent of Schools.

Safe and active travel

The school district encourages everyone to get to and from school in safe and active ways. To learn about the benefits and initiatives of safe and active travel, and to download school-based route maps, please visit the NVSD’s Safe and Active Travel web page.

School district permission forms

Each year, we ask parents/guardians to complete certain school district permission forms online using the SchoolCash Online system. You should have already received an email with information on how to complete the following forms:

  • Impromptu Walking Field Trip Informed Consent
  • Personal Information Consent for School District Publications
  • Student Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement

Please complete these forms online and ideally, before the end of this first week of school. All other permission forms are paper based, and you will receive them directly from your child(ren)’s school. Should you have any questions about form completion, please contact your child(ren)’s school.

Communications throughout the school year

Through the NVSD website and communication platforms, the school district strives to provide clear, consistent and transparent communications to the community. In addition to communications sent to you directly from your child(ren)’s school(s), you can expect to hear from the school district on a regular (i.e., monthly) basis through:

In conclusion, it is an honour to support and educate students, work and learn alongside dedicated staff, and share the many ways the NVSD fosters a community where everyone can learn, share, and grow.

Wishing you each a fantastic start to the 2024/25 school year!

Respectfully,

Dr. Pius Ryan
