​What is the FNESS Fire Prevention Youth Bootcamp?

First Nations’ Emergency Services Society (FNESS) Fire Services department is proud to provide fire prevention programs and firefighter training to First Nation communities in British Columbia (BC). Fire Services aims to provide fire safety education, fire service training, and community support to achieve FNESS’ vision of Safe and Healthy First Nation Communities. You will be working with fire services personnel from both FNESS and Professional Firefighters from your local Fire Department to learn about firefighter skills, practical fire safety knowledge, and careers in the fire service. ​

What does a camp participant do?  

You will be working with fire services personnel from both First Nations Emergency Services Society and Professional Firefighters from your local Fire Department to learn about firefighter skills, practical fire safety knowledge, and careers in the fire service.  

​Who can attend? 

  • Open to 25 ​Indigenous students entering Grade 9 - 12 from both North and West Vancouver School Districts

​What are the benefits?

Indigenous youth will take part in an exciting 2-day Boot Camp. At the camp, youth will be led by firefighters and exposed to many elements of being a firefighter, e.g., donning and doffing of gear, radio communications, forcible entry, command structure of a fire department, fire prevention, and fire extinguisher training.

  • District of North Vancouver Fire Dept. Training Grounds   

How do I register?  

Students are to complete registration forms, waivers, and photo release forms and be fully vaccinated to attend.  Please see your school Work Experience Teacher or Work Experience Facilitator for registration package.
