Early Childhood Education Assistant

​​What does an Early Childhood Assistant do?

Certification by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care allows students to work with young children in an early childhood setting (ages birth to 5 years), under the supervision of a certified Early Childhood Educator (ECE). ​​

What do I need to start?

  • Passionate about working with children
  • Criminal Record Check (CRC)
  • Completion of Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR Certificate (available before the program starts)
  • 75% or better in English 10 or 11
  • 2 letters of reference
  • Completion of application
  • Successful interview by Langara
  • Excellent work ethic
  • Ability to work independently online (course will be delivered in a blended format with teacher support)

What are the benefits?

  • Free tuition
  • 8 credits towards graduation
  • Upon successful completion, 3 credits towards ECE Certificate Program at Langara College
  • Upon successful completion, certified to work as an ECE Assistant (within two years, must complete a ECE Basic Certification to continue this status)
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Work experience placement through the WEX program
  • Allows students to work within the childcare system while continuing to complete Langara's ECE Basic Certificate Program ( 2 year program)
  • ​Excellent resume builder

When and where is the program offered?

  • Blended between home school and TBD North Vancouver School District site
  • Must be available to meet Langara Instructor 1x/week for in-person instruction

How do I register?

  • ​Applications will be available in January 2025
  • Deadline to submit is March 3rd, 2025​​
    • Please see the school Work Experience Teacher for application package. You will then participate in an interview.
    • ​To be eligible for TUITION FREE programming, you must apply through the North Vancouver School District.
