Carpentry Framing and Forming Foundation

What does a carpenter do? 

  • ​Assembles and erects falsework and forms for wood, concrete and metal frame construction 
  • Installs interior and exterior finishing materials for residential, commercial and industrial projects 
  • Reads architectural drawings (blueprints) and builds while conforming to plans, specifications and building codes

  • ​Entering Grade 11 or Grade 12 
  • Good employability skills 
  • Strong interest in the industry 

​What are the benefits?

  • Post-secondary apprenticeship training without the tuition fee 
  • Up to 16 credits towards graduation 
  • Apprenticeship Technical Training Level 1 Certification 
  • Student registered with SkilledTradesBC 

​When and where is the program offered?

  • ​23 weeks, full-time at BCIT (Burnaby Campus) 
  • Classes are held in-person Monday-Friday from 7:30AM-2:00PM  
  • This program is also offered by the West Vancouver School District and runs on a linear schedule that aligns with the North Vancouver School District
  • Another option is to apply to the Carpentry program offered by the West Vancouver School District, as they have opened their doors to applications from North Vancouver School District students.  More information included below:

​2025-2026 CARPENTRY: Applications OPEN - due Friday March 14th, 2025

 

Offered by West Vancouver Schools, and open to North Vancouver School District students. This hands-on program is perfect for students passionate about learning practical skills in carpentry and construction. Whether you’re exploring a future career or simply gaining a skill that lasts a lifetime, this program delivers. Learn from a Red Seal-certified instructor, earn 16 high school credits, achieve Level 1 Carpentry Training certification, and master essentials like blueprint reading and advanced tool use.   • ​Please see the school Work Experience Teacher for application package 
  • Participate in a program interview 
  • If interested in the West Vancouver School District program, please apply to them directly, however you must fill out a NVSD YTIT Application Form available through your counselor or Work Experience Teacher.

Please do not apply directly to BCIT for this program. To be eligible for TUITION FREE programming, you must apply through the North Vancouver School District!
