Overview
Each year, we look forward to welcoming young learners and their families to the North Vancouver School District (NVSD).
A parent or guardian can register their child for Kindergarten if, on or before December 31 of that school year, the student has reached the age of 5 years. For example, for the 2025/26 school year, the student must be 5 years of age prior to December 31, 2025. In other words, the child would have been born in 2020.
Placement confirmation and information will be communicated through email or phone from the assigned school. Students registered during initial registration will receive notice of placement by the end of May. Students registered after initial registration will receive notice of placement at the end of August of the upcoming school year.
Visit the Kindergarten web page for more information and resources.
Programs
You can register your child in either an English or French Immersion full-day program. All NVSD schools offer the English full-day program. The following schools offer Kindergarten French Immersion:
- Braemar Elementary
- Cleveland Elementary
- Dorothy Lynas Elementary
- Larson Elementary
- Ross Road Elementary
- Sherwood Park Elementary
How to register
All students must be registered at Central Registration. A parent or legal guardian must submit the required form and documents in person during the appointment. Only complete applications will be considered for placement or added to waitlists. It is not required for the child to attend this appointment.
Step 1 – Gather required documents
Complete the Student Registration Form (a hard copy is available at Central Registration). Visit the Required Documents web page for a comprehensive listing of what is required for all new student registrations. Additional documents are required based on the category of application; Canadian citizen or permanent resident, work permit holder, study permit holder, and refugees.
Please bring the original required documents; staff at the Central Registration office will make copies of these original documents.
Step 2 – Find your catchment
Use the School Locator tool to find your catchment.
Catchments are determined by the area in which the student's parents or guardians reside. Students will attend the school in their catchment area unless there is no physical or program space available.
Step 3 – Book an appointment
Book an in-person appointment with Central Registration using the online booking system.
2024/25 Kindergarten registration is ongoing, please book an in-person appointment anytime.
2025/26 Kindergarten registration takes place between October 8, 2024, through January 6, 2025. All Kindergarten applications completed within this time frame are processed equally and placed according to initial placement category groups. Visit the Registration web page for more information on placement categories.
If you are unable to secure an appointment online, please contact Central Registration at 604-903-3444 or registration@sd44.ca.
