Music
The Music department at Handsworth is very active, with rehearsals happening each day, before and after hours, by our award-winning students and ensembles. The teachers make great efforts to provide the students with a rich experience in music and musical activities. These include frequent performances, festival attendance, yearly local tours such as Whistler and Sun Peaks, and major tours such as New York, Cuba, Italy, Spain and Portugal every two years. It is a comprehensive program of four Concert Bands, three String Orchestras, three Jazz Bands, and one Choir. Some notable performances include The Senor Wind Ensemble performing at the UBC Chan Centre for the Performing Arts and the Senior Jazz Band playing at the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival Youth Showcase.
At Handsworth Music, we believe in providing our students with ample opportunities to feature their musical talents. Every year, our music students can audition for Provincial Honour Music groups, and we are proud to say that our school has been well-represented in these ensembles. The North Vancouver Secondary Honour Band and Strings perform every second year with Vancouver Symphony players on stage at the Orpheum, providing our students with a platform to shine.
Our music department offers a diverse range of music genres, from classical to contemporary, jazz, and pop. We believe in challenging and engaging our students with various musical styles. We also encourage and promote small ensembles and self-directed jazz combos, fostering a dynamic and creative musical environment.

Music Bottle Drive
Support your Handsworth Music Programs by donating your refundable bottles and cans to our Bottle Drive. Please remember that Handsworth Music has a Return It Express account which allows you to donate bottles throughout the year. With Return It Express, you can bring your bottles down to any Return It Express location (https://www.return-it.ca/locations/) in a clear bag. Print out a sticker at the kiosk using the Handsworth School number: 604-903-3600. Stick the sticker on the bag and leave it in the Return It Express area, and they will credit the Handsworth Music account. There is no sorting required.
